Tuna for babies
Why tuna is great for babies
Protein and omega-3s. Choose light/skipjack tuna and keep to about once a week — albacore carries more mercury.
How to serve at 6–8 months
Mash canned light tuna (in water, no salt added) with avocado, yogurt or olive oil until moist and clumpy.
How to serve at 9–11 months
Moist flaked tuna, tuna patties, or tuna-avocado mash on toast.
How to serve at 12+ months
Tuna salad, patties, or flaked into pasta.
Allergen note
Tuna counts as a fish exposure — one of the 9 common allergens. Current pediatric guidance favors introducing allergens early (around 6 months), one at a time, and keeping them in the diet regularly once tolerated.
