Chicken for babies
△ Moderate choking risk
💪 Iron-rich
Safety first: Dry, crumbly chunks are hard to manage. Keep it moist; shred or serve large pieces to gnaw.
Why chicken is great for babies
Protein, iron and zinc — dark meat (thigh) has more iron and stays moister.
How to serve at 6–8 months
A whole cooked drumstick (skin, cartilage and loose bone fragments removed) makes a natural handle — baby gnaws and sucks. Or finely shredded moist thigh meat, or blended chicken folded into mash.
How to serve at 9–11 months
Finely shredded or thin small strips of moist chicken; meatballs made soft with breadcrumbs.
How to serve at 12+ months
Shredded, diced, or soft meatballs. Avoid tough dry chunks.
