Tempeh for babies
Why tempeh is great for babies
Fermented soy with protein, iron and probiotics; firmer and nuttier than tofu.
How to serve at 6–8 months
Steam or simmer thick strips until soft (simmering mellows bitterness), or crumble finely into sauces.
How to serve at 9–11 months
Soft-cooked strips or crumbles in mixed dishes.
How to serve at 12+ months
Pan-seared strips or crumbles in tacos and stir-fries.
Allergen note
Tempeh counts as a soy exposure — one of the 9 common allergens. Current pediatric guidance favors introducing allergens early (around 6 months), one at a time, and keeping them in the diet regularly once tolerated.
