Apple for babies
⚠️ High choking risk — preparation matters
Safety first: Raw apple is a top choking hazard for babies and toddlers. Always cook until soft, grate raw, or slice paper-thin for older toddlers.
Why apple is great for babies
Fiber and vitamin C. Cooking softens it and makes nutrients easier to access.
How to serve at 6–8 months
Steam or bake peeled apple halves or thick wedges until completely soft (a fork slides in easily). Serve warm wedges or mash into a chunky sauce.
How to serve at 9–11 months
Soft-cooked bite-size pieces, or finely grated raw apple. Unsweetened applesauce on a preloaded spoon.
How to serve at 12+ months
Continue cooked pieces or grated raw. Whole raw apple and thick raw slices remain choking hazards until at least age 4.
