Pasta for babies
Why pasta is great for babies
Energy and (if fortified) B vitamins and iron. A friendly vehicle for sauces, fish and vegetables.
How to serve at 6–8 months
Large shapes cooked very soft: fusilli, rigatoni, or thick strips of lasagna sheet. Toss with olive oil or low-sodium sauce.
How to serve at 9–11 months
Cooked-soft shapes of any size; cut long noodles.
How to serve at 12+ months
Any pasta, any sauce (watch sodium in jarred sauces).
Allergen note
Pasta counts as a wheat exposure — one of the 9 common allergens. Current pediatric guidance favors introducing allergens early (around 6 months), one at a time, and keeping them in the diet regularly once tolerated.
