Couscous for babies
Why couscous is great for babies
Quick-cooking wheat pasta in tiny form. Whole-wheat versions add fiber.
How to serve at 6–8 months
Cook soft and moisten with olive oil or sauce so it clumps; baby scoops handfuls. Pearl couscous is easier to pick up.
How to serve at 9–11 months
Moist couscous clumps or pearl couscous pieces.
How to serve at 12+ months
As a side, in salads and bowls.
Allergen note
Couscous counts as a wheat exposure — one of the 9 common allergens. Current pediatric guidance favors introducing allergens early (around 6 months), one at a time, and keeping them in the diet regularly once tolerated.
